My main focus is the Science Foundation Ireland www.fame.ie Federated, Autonomic Management of End-to-end Communications Services (FAME)”</a> strategic research cluster, in which I am a Funded Investigator, leading a team of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students collaborating with the Cisco Voice Technology Group in Galway, Ireland and IBM in Dublin, Ireland. I am also involved in the www.tgi.ie Telecommunications Graduate Initiative</a> all-Ireland graduate school, where I coordinate the Service Delivery stream, one of the four streams that make up the initiative.  Finally, I also have responsibility for overall coordination of the TSSG PhD programme, which currently comprises 20 full and part-time PhD students.

In my role of Lead Researcher I assist the Research Units to develop and drive an integrated research strategy for the TSSG.  I also support the Research Units in the implementation of this strategy, through activities including recruitment of post-docs and students, development of research proposals and publishing.

In the past I worked as a Senior Software Engineer with Openet, a leading vendor of convergent mediation/charging and policy control platforms for telecommunications network operators. Before that I worked as a Project Manager, Part-time Lecturer and PhD candidate at the Teltec Ireland centre at  www.dcu.ie Dublin City University, where I was active in research in the areas of SS.7, Intelligent Networks, performance management, service creation and agent technology. During my time with Teltec I was the initiator and project/technical manager of the European Commission funded collaborative research ACTS project MARINER, which addressed the use of FIPA compliant agent technology for resource allocation and load control in Intelligent Networks.

My current research interests are in provision and management of communications services, policy based network management (especially policy consistency and conflict analysis and performance/scalability of policy evaluation systems), network monitoring and planning, and accountability processes in digital ecosystems. Over the past five years I’ve been involved in the organisation of many international workshops and conferences, including co-chairing the MMNS 2006 conference and the MACE 2007 workshop. I recently acted as Finance chair for the IFIP/IEEE IM 2011 conference in Dublin, May 2011.  In 2009 I was elected as Secretary to the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
