Opium

The objective of the OPIUM project is to validate the introduction of the new wireless based applications in Europe - based on a combination of new wireless protocols (GPRS and UMTS). The project intends to build a Pan European network of interconnected 2.5G & 3G platforms from multiple platform manufacturers and operators to demonstrate and validate commercially applicable network and service accounting, interoperability and roaming solutions. It will test through trial demonstrations the seamless end-to-end provision of advanced 3G services across the Pan European network, and demonstrate the applicability of Virtual Home Environments (VHE)/Mobile Service Portals for the delivery of customisable user services.
