Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Location-Based Communications Technologies
The Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) is the largest research group in communications software in the Republic of Ireland. The TSSG was established in 1997 under the directorship of Dr. William Donnelly, continuously growing since. Since its foundation the group has been involved in 59 funded projects (Irish and European), has been the lead partner in over 64% of these, attracting almost 25 Million Euro in research funding to WIT.
Staff and students work on a range of nationally funded and EU-funded research programs and projects, as well as in direct commercial consultancy and development projects. Currently, the TSSG is broadening its scope of basic research activities, having received major funding from the Science Foundation Ireland.
The main area of research is the convergence of communications and computing, the emerging architectures for management of complex telecoms systems and pervasive services. The TSSG has strong expertise in the area of ubiquitous and distributed object technologies and web-based solutions, and applies these skills within the communications domain.
The TSSG is recruiting a Senior Post Doctoral Researcher to lead basic and applied research in the area of: Location-Based Communications Technologies
The successful candidate will be report to the Research Director of the TSSG, and will work with other researchers in the TSSG as a team, and be funded under an extension of the HEA PRTLI Cycle III M-Zones programme. This work will involve developing models of integrated location-based services using various location technologies including indoor (e.g. RFID and Ultra-Wideband), and outdoor (e.g. 2G and 3G mobile telephony, and satellite positioning) systems, and being engaged in the academic research environment of TSSG. Candidates must have a PhD in computing or engineering and research experience in location-based technologies.
The successful candidate will be delegated responsibilities for managing the M-Zones programme, and supervising postgraduate students. He or she will be part of a team of postdoctoral research fellows working in related programmes, and participate in peer-review quality assurance processes relating to their own and their students work.
Candidates must have a PhD in computing or engineering and research experience in location-based technologies, and research student supervision experience.
