SENSITIC

SENSITIC is an acronym indicating development and reinforcement of actions to promote awareness of communication and information technologies (SENSItise awareness of Technologies for Information and Communication) for the general public and small and medium undertakings within the Atlantic region.

The SENSITIC 2 project is the extension of the SENSITIC project. The duration of the project was from July 2003 to July 2005. SENSITIC 2 gathered 7 European regions (Algarve (P), Aquitaine (F), Bretagne (F), Carmarthenshire (UK), La Rioja (SP), Poitou-Charentes (F) and Wexford (IRL)) within the framework of the INTERREG III B programme

The main objectives of this programme were:

  • to contribute towards rebalancing the territory of the European Union through actions reinforcing its structure and of interest to the Community;
  • to facilitate trans-national co-operation conducted by the member States and other authorities in charge of territorial development;
  • to improve the territorial impact of Community policies

The total budget for this project was 15,250 Euro and it was funded through the INTERREG IIIB Community Initiative Programme.

Extended Description

The purpose of the SENSITIC 2 project was to gauge the impact of the Information Society in seven regions of the Atlantic Arc:

South East Ireland; Carmarthenshire in Wales ;Brittany,Poitou -Charentes and Aquitaine in France; Rioja in Spain; the Algarve in Portugal.

It has a two-fold objective:

• to measure the progress achieved by the Information Society in six areas: citizen, enterprise, governance, education, tourism, culture.

• to benchmark the results between seven regions representing the five countries covered by the INTERREG IIIB Atlantic programme.

Starting with a previous project in 2000, SENSITIC II was not only a pioneer project but also a dynamic project that broadened both its scope of study and its geographical area.

SENSITIC II also had a double ambition :

• to allow the areas to better manage the conduct of their surveys in a sector that has become essential to their planning but one that is particularly changeable.

• to help inform decision makers on t he ‘inventory ’ of Information Technologies and by doing so to enable them to more effectively adapt their strategies in terms of activities associated with the Information Society.

SENSITIC II was therefore part of a desire to contribute to the aims of the eEurope 2005 plan in favour of the Information Society and to transfer its experience to the other region s in the Atlantic Area so as to promote a knowledge of their areas and ensure their competitiveness.
