More

The focus of MORE is to develop and validate a middleware which hides the complexity of the underlying heterogeneity of embedded systems by providing simplified APIs and management operations for the future operations of these systems.

MORE will implement new approaches to facilitate communication and distributed intelligence across groups of users using different wireless standards. MORE is funded by the FP6 Programme. The project has been running since June 2006, and will be completed June 2009.

Extended description

The objective is to develop and provide generic technological solutions to the efficient support of group communications and interactions by embedded systems. The key driver is to provide the core technology and building block that will act as enablers for the development of new applications and services where embedded systems are required to cooperate on large scales.

In order to facilitate the creation of the MORE system concept and to identify precisely the requirements upon the system to be developed two different key scenarios will be developed. The scenarios provide a means to demonstrate and validate the key technology decisions and innovations within the project. The two scenarios are:

Mitigation Management of environmental damage – e.g. critical value transgression for forest system stability (storm, biological stability), water quality, soil functionality – information must be transferred from automatic monitoring facilities (e.g. EU Level-I/II plots) to a heterogeneous group of (a) affected land owners and (b) persons in charge at different administration, research, and management organisations

A Chronic Care scenario which will allow diabetes patients, medical experts, patients relatives and family doctor to be grouped together and react to emergency situations in both static and mobile environments. With the help of the system patients can regularly check their status, analyse the monitored data, be informed on the actions they have to implement, get answers for their questions, and get external help if needed.

TSSG has numerous roles within the MORE project. TSSG are involved in the design and implementation phases focusing on areas like;

Group Communication and Management

Core Middleware Management System

TSSG lead the Validation & Verification work package.
