The vision of Daidalos is of a world in which:
- Mobile users can enjoy a diverse range of personalized services - seamlessly supported by the underlying technology and transparently provided through a pervasive interface.
- Mobility has been fully established through open, scalable and seamless integration of a complementary range of heterogeneous network technologies.
- Network and service operators are able to develop new business activities and provide profitable services in such an integrated mobile world.
Within this nascent environment, Daidalos has been working on the design, and prototyping of the necessary infrastructure and components for efficient distribution of services over diverse network technologies. As part of this task, complementary network technologies were integrated, and a signalling system for communication and management support in these networks was developed.
The main governing architecture for the system has been specified and many of the required interfaces have been developed and integrated across multiple domains.
A set of core stories/scenarios has been documented. The scenarios provide a means to demonstrate and validate the key technology decisions and innovations within the project.
Hardware and software solutions have been developed and integrated in order to demonstrate and Daidalos architecture. Public events, and commission audits, are used as a means to disseminate and demonstrate Daidalos results. For a full list, see: www.ist-daidalos.org -> Events
TSSG has numerous roles within the Daidalos project. In terms of technology R&D the areas of most relevance to TSSG within Daidalos are:
- Development of Pervasive Services Environment, taking into account:
- Service Discovery
- Service Composition
- Security
- Personalisation
- Rules/Events
- Context
- Development of business modelling solutions for the overall Daidalos architecture
- Provision of security expertise to assist the project in making key security and privacy architecture decisions
- Provision of test beds and testing expertise for the project
Development of third party applications and services, to be used to facilitate scenario demonstrations.
