TSSG Location: International Travel
The TSSG is based in WIT's West Campus in Carriganore, on the western edge of Waterford City, next to the River Suir and the new by-pass. This section gives some high level information for international visitors, with some hotel recommendations. The section below gives detailed driving directions, that may be used by international visitors who hire a car, or by Irish visitors.
Internationally the TSSG can be accessed from a number of airports, with Dublin
being the best for onward connections via public transport:
- Dublin with direct bus
and indirect rail links to Waterford the best connection point for most
travelers. Direct bus takes 4hrs in normal daytime traffic conditions.
- Cork closest international
airport if hiring a car (2hr drive), though public transport connections
are more problematic.
- Shannon another good option by car,
though slightly further than Cork.
- Waterford Airport is the most local airport, but is not well served by international links. It does have some useful links to the UK, specifically to London Luton, Birmingham and Manchester offered by Aer Arann. The TSSG is a short 15min taxi ride from the airport.
Travel from Dublin Airport:
- Direct bus from Dublin Airport provided by J.J. Kavanagh Coaches.
Be sure that you go to the coach departure point which is straight ahead
from the exit from Arrivals through the multistory car park and out
the other side (on this
map it is on the far side of the car parks A and B, short term car
parks). Currently departures are at: 10.30am 12.30pm 3.30pm 4.00pm 5.00pm
6.30pm 8.00pm, allow 4h to get to Waterford though it may be faster.
- Airport Shuttle Bus also called
Dublin Bus 748 to Heuston Train Station (1hr) from directly outside
Arrivals. Avoid the AirCoach which serves hotels. Then take the
train to Waterford (3h).
Travel from Cork Airport:
- Get Bus
to Cork City (0.5-1h journey), and then bus
to Waterford. (approx 1 each hour, 1.5-2h journey).
TSSG Location: Driving Directions
From Cork direction:
- Take the N25 to Waterford
- Go straight at Kilmeadan Roundabout (onto new N25 by-pass)
- Stay on the new N25 by-pass and take the first and only exit before the toll station - do not miss this!
- Turn right at first roundabout to cross over N25
- Go straight through the next roundabouts of the exit
- Go straight through the first large roundabout (which has no other exit at the moment) Note: This will become the main entrance to our campus in time.
- Take the right exit at the next large roundabout signposted to Mount Congreve
- Take the next right (signposted as WIT West Campus) - this is small road but is properly surfaced
- At the end of the road, turn right into the campus
- ArcLabs building is the first major building on the left, turn left into car park to park
From Dublin, Limerick, Wexford (New Ross) direction [now changed - as you can opt to take new TOLL BRIDGE - we advise this route as it is the simplest]:
Take the M9, N24 or N25 to Waterford
Option A (via toll bridge - simplest/advised):
- Take the N25 by-pass (direction Cork), over the new bridge and toll (1.90 Euros)
- From Dublin you will arrive on M9 from Kilkenny, turn left at first roundabout, and then right at the second roundabout, and join the N25 bypass very close to the toll bridge (direction Cork via toll bridge).
- From Limerick, you will arrive at a series of roundabouts, joining the route from Dublin, and turning right onto the N25 to the toll bridge (direction Cork via toll bridge).
- From Wexford you will turn right onto the N25 bypass as you reach the north eastern outskirts of the city, and this will take you directly to the toll bridge in the west.
- After paying the toll on the far side of the bridge take first exit from the N25 (DO NOT MISS - as it is a long way until the next exit in Kilmeaden)
- Turn left (first exit) at the exit roundabout you come up to
- Go straight through the first large roundabout (which has no other exit at the moment)
- This will become the main entrance to our campus in time
- Take the right exit at the next large roundabout signposted to Mount Congreve
- Take the next right (signposted as WIT West Campus) - this is small road but is properly surfaced
- At the end of the road, turn right into the campus
- ArcLabs building is the first major building on the left, turn left into car park to park
Option B (via city centre):
- Use the 'old' N25 (follow signs to Waterford city centre), cross the Rice Bridge into the city, turn immediately left onto Quays
- Drive parallel to the river until you come to the Tower Hotel
- The road veers around to the right, keep to right hand lane to go straight ahead
- Keep on straight for about 1.5 miles
- At the Butlerstown roundabout (on the edge of the city), turn right (You'll know when you're here because of the prevalence of garages: Opel, VW, Fiat, car dealers ...)
- At the Old Kilmeaden Road roundabout, turn left signposted to Mount Congreve
- Take the next right (signposted as WIT West Campus) - this is small road but is properly surfaced
- At the end of the road, turn right into the campus
- ArcLabs building is the first major building on the left, turn left into car park to park
Visiting the TSSG: Places to Stay
Hotels in Waterford City:
Usually it is better to stay in Waterford City as there are more activities available on foot nearby. However, the Ramada Viking is almost close enough to walk or cycle to the TSSG and is a good place to stay if you just want somewhere close to be a base.
Visiting Waterford: Taxis
Around Waterford there are a number of local taxi (which can be hailed on
the street) and hackney cab (which cannot be hailed on the street) companies:
