OFFSET Design Conference was back at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from the 8th – 10th of April. In it’s 8th year the conference was bigger and better than ever. The design conference, which provides a great opportunity to enhance skills, learn new methods and engage with many people in creative industry. OFFSET 2016 had an exceptional line up of Irish and International designers, advertisers, artists, illustrators, photographers, and art directors.
Some of the big names this year included digital graphic design duo Reed and Rader, Irish advertising agency Rothco, Irish artist Robert Ballagh, the channel 4 creative team ‘4 Creative’, designer and artist Morag Myerscough, Pentagram creative director Angus Hyland, Irish Fashion designer Una Burke, and designer and artist Seb Lester just to name a few. They spoke about their work, their ideas and inspirations and gave insight into their practices and personal perspectives on their own careers.
Rothco gave an interesting insight into the world of an advertiser with stories of failures along with successes and some great advice on how to work in advertising without losing your soul! With a career that spans more than 4 decades Robert Ballagh brought us on a journey of his life’s work. He gave the audience an in depth view into many of his paintings, ideas and thought process.
The 4 Creative team were an inspiring duo that saw everything as an opportunity, they use their platform at channel 4 as a creative playground to test boundaries and challenge perceptions in the most creative ways they can think of. And not less, the artist Morag Myerscough showed her colourful and vivid work. Using her love for colours and patterns, Morag creates incredible 3D installations for public spaces. This artist shows that design with good collaborative work can be more than just prints and a part of our everyday lives.
