PANLABSII Project (PII)

Project Overview

PANLABSII Project (PII) logo

The central objective of PII was to create a testbed federation among regional innovation clusters in Europe. This would enable companies participating in these clusters to test new communication services and applications across Europe. ICT Panlabs II (PII) was a 3 year project which addressed the need for large-scale testing facilities in the communications area by implementing an infrastructure for federating testbeds. The central objective of PII was to create a testbed federation among regional innovation clusters in Europe. This enabled companies participating in these clusters to test new communication services and applications across Europe. The testbed federation included four core innovation clusters and three satellite clusters, with the TSSG being one of these clusters.

The project started in June of 2008 and ended in November 2010.

Project Achievements

Developed mechanisms and tools to describe, store, located and orchestrated testing services as well as means to automatically provide composite testbeds across multiple administrative domains.
• Developed and elaborated mechanisms to combine and accommodate future clean-slate approaches and provided testing services in a network-agnostic manner.
• Defined a common abstract control framework, which enabled the interconnection of diverse testbeds.
• Established a trust across the federation by means of quality assurance processes and tools.
• Integrated the concept of User Driven Innovation.
• Executed a techno-socio-economic study to assess the long-term sustainability of the federation model

In the ICT PII project the TSSG have been co-authors of the following project deliverables in 2008:
